Kerry Presses Mideast Peace Talks

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has voiced confidence that both Israeli and Palestinian leaders are committed to reviving peace talks.

He spoke Wednesday at a news conference in Kuwait with Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled al-Sabah.

Kerry said he did not want to set any deadlines but emphasized there needed to be progress before the UN General Assembly in September.

If attempts at reaching an accord between the two sides fail, the Palestinians have said they'd pursue a strategy of international recognition on their own.

From Kuwait, Kerry heads to Jordan, which he will use as a base as he shuttles between meetings with Israeli and Palestinian officials.

Israeli-Palestinian talks broke down in late 2010 in a dispute over construction of Jewish settlements in the West Bank.
