U.S. Arrests Pakistani Brothers In Alleged Terror Plot

U.S. authorities in Florida have announced the arrest of two Pakistani-born brothers on charges of providing support to terrorists and conspiring to use a weapon of mass destruction inside the United States.

The brothers were identified on November 30 as Sheheryar Alam Qazi, 30, and Raees Alam Qazi, 20. Officials said they were naturalized U.S. citizens.

They were arrested in the Fort Lauderdale area.

A U.S. federal indictment says the men provided money, housing, communications equipment, and transportation as part of a conspiracy to obtain a weapon of mass destruction.

Officials said the arrests were not part of a sting operation, and that the investigation was continuing. Few other details about the plot were released.

Prosecutors said that “any potential threat” posed by the brothers had been disrupted.
