An Iraqi man who pleaded guilty to terrorism-related charges has been sentenced to life in prison in the southern U.S. state of Kentucky.

A district judge sentenced 25-year-old Mohanad Shareef Hammadi.

It came hours after 30-year-old co-defendant Waad Ramadan Alwan of Kentucky received a lesser sentence for his cooperation with prosecutors after his arrest in May 2011.

Hammadi and Alwan pleaded guilty last year to conspiring to send weapons, cash, and explosives to Al-Qaeda in Iraq.
