U.S. 'Deeply Concerned' About Yemen

Anti-government protesters attend a rally in Sanaa on September 23.

The United States has expressed "deep concern" over events in Yemen and again called for President Ali Abduallah Saleh to step down after 33 years in power.

Yemen has been rocked by protests since January demanding the ouster of Saleh.

He returned to the country on Friday after three months of medical treatment in Saudi Arabia, sparking fresh fears of civil war.

Some 200 people were reported killed in the past week in clashes between anti-government protesters and security forces in the capital Sanaa with 40 reported to have been killed alone on September 24.
