The United States has sent a team of experts to Islamabad to assist Pakistan in the search for 135 people buried under a large avalanche.

Pakistan will consult with the team to determine what help is needed to expedite the rescue operation.

The April 7th avalanche covered a military complex close to the Indian border.

More than 200 Pakistani troops and others are at the site of the disaster in Siachen, which is on the northern tip of the divided Kashmir region claimed by both India and Pakistan.

They are trying to dig through some 25 meters of snow, boulders and mud.

The Pakistani army says it doesn't know whether anyone buried is still alive.
