Uzbek President Appoints His Daughter To Position In His Office

Uzbekistan's President Shavkat Mirziyoev appointed his 38-year-old daughter, Saida Mirziyoeva, as an assistant to the president, on August 25, the official Telegram channel of the Uzbek president said. The practice of appointing relatives to influential state positions is common in authoritarian Central Asian nations. In Turkmenistan, President Serdar Berdymukhammedov succeeded his father, Gurbanguly Berdymukhammedov. In Tajikistan, Emomali Rahmon's eldest son, Rustam Emomali, holds key positions, including chairman of the parliament's upper chamber and mayor of Dushanbe.
