Clashes between police and demonstrators broke out in Caracas during a protest against Nicolas Maduro’s victory in Venezuela’s presidential election.
Police used tear gas to disperse protesters.
Venezuela's electoral authority earlier April 15 formally declared Maduro the winner of the election, saying he won 50.8 percent of the vote, against 49.0 percent for opposition candidate Henrique Capriles.
Maduro was the chosen successor of the late President Hugo Chavez, who died in March after a battle with cancer.
The United States and the Organization of American States have backed Capriles’ demand for a recount.
Capriles has denounced Maduro an "illegitimate president."
The victory by the ruling Socialist Party politician has been welcomed by Venezuelan allies Iran, Russia and Cuba.
