WikiLeaks Founder Assange To Face Questioning

Julian Assange in February

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange is to face questioning by prosecutors at the Ecuadoran Embassy in London over rape allegations made against him in Sweden.

Swedish and Ecuadoran prosecutors along with a Swedish police inspector are due to speak on November 14 with Assange in the embassy, where he has been holed up for more than four years.

Assange has stayed in the embassy after fearing he could be sent to Sweden by British officials and then perhaps extradited to the United States, where he has other charges pending against him.

Assange, 45, has a European arrest warrant against him over allegations of rape filed by two Swedish women who met Assange in 2010 in Sweden.

He has said the claims were politically motivated and insists he had only consensual sexual encounters with the women.

Assange is wanted in the United States over WikiLeaks's release of 500,000 secret military files on the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq.

A Swedish official said the questioning could last a few days and that they intend to take a DNA sample from Assange, if he agrees.
