In Belarus, factory workers walked out of their plants, students left their classes, and motorists slowed traffic after a call for a nationwide general strike. The strikes on October 26 came after Alyaksandr Lukashenka ignored an ultimatum by opposition leader Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya to surrender power.
