Protesters damaged a television studio and a kiosk on Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro after the June 12 opening match of the 2014 World Cup. Several protesters were arrested. The lead-up to the tournament was overshadowed by months of unrest with many Brazilians angry over the $11.3 billion spent on hosting the World Cup in a country where basic social services are poorly financed.
