Pakistan’s military says the government has sent a 14-year-old schoolgirl activist who was shot and seriously wounded by the Taliban to Britain for treatment.
A statement on October 15 said an air ambulance carrying Malala Yousafzai departed from Islamabad and was flying to the United Kingdom.
The aircraft has been provided by the United Arab Emirates.
The British government has confirmed that Malala will be cared for at a Birmingham hospital.
The Pakistani military has said Malala will require prolonged care to fully recover from the physical and psychological effects of her injuries and trauma.
The military statement said a British center could provide the "integrated care" she needs to recover from her "severe injury."
Yousafzai was shot in the head one week ago in Pakistan’s northwest.
