Yemen Power Deal Unraveling As Saleh Still Defiant

Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh

A deal to remove Yemen's President Ali Abdullah Saleh could be unraveling.

The secretary-general of the six-member Gulf Cooperation Council, which brokered the agreement, is due in Sanaa as early as today to try to save it.

Saleh was due to sign the deal on April 30, agreeing to leave office within a month after 33 years in power.

That would have made him the third Arab ruler toppled after mass street protests.

But Saleh refused to sign in his capacity as president and objected to GCC member Qatar's part.
