Tens of thousands of protesters rallied today in a city in southern Yemen as calls mounted for President Ali Abdullah Saleh to step down after 32 years in power.
The protesters gathered in the southern flashpoint city of Taez after one demonstrator was shot dead and 30 were wounded in the city overnight.
The latest clashes came as rights watchdog Amnesty International called for an outside investigation into the Yemen violence, which has claimed nearly 100 lives since the start of the year.
This week, more than 20 demonstrators were shot dead in protests across the country.
Following the brutal crackdown, strong statements condemning the violence were issued by the United Nations, European Union, and United States. But the Pentagon said there were no plans to suspend U.S. military aid to Yemen.
