El-Baradei: Iran Cooperating With IAEA

Brussels, 2 March 2004 (RFE/RL) -- The head of the UN's nuclear watchdog agency today said Iran is cooperating more with the agency.

International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) chief Muhammad el-Baradei made his remarks in Brussels, where he is scheduled to attend a European Union conference on nuclear energy.

El-Baradei told reporters that Iran's cooperation with his agency is moving "in the right direction" despite omissions in disclosing details of its nuclear program.

The nuclear watchdog chief also said his agency almost has a "full understanding" of Iran's nuclear activities.

Last week, the UN agency said its inspectors had found technology and research in Iran that could be linked to a nuclear weapons program.

Iran denies trying to develop nuclear arms.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
