Romanian Prime Minister Reshuffles Government

Bucharest, 8 March 2004 (RFE/RL) -- Romanian Prime Minister Adrian Nastase today reshuffled his government in an effort to make it more efficient ahead of the general election this fall.

Nastase said that the goal of the restructuring is "to improve the quality of our government and to eliminate some deficiencies."

Nastase dismissed Justice Minister Rodica Stoianu, who has come in for criticism from European Union officials over a lack of independence of the judiciary in Romania.

He also appointed three deputy prime ministers.

RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
