President-Elect Says Serbia Ready To Extradite Indictees

Serbian President-elect Tadic (file photo) 30 June 2004 -- Serbia's newly elected President Boris Tadic said today that Serbia should take action to find top war crimes suspects to extradite them to the UN war crimes tribunal in The Hague.

Tadic also said Serbia should show the world it is trying to catch war crimes fugitive Ratko Mladic.

Tadic said Mladic should answer before the tribunal for the 1995 Srebrenica massacre of thousands of Muslims.

Western officials have made clear Serbia must arrest Mladic and other war crimes suspects still at large.

Chief UN war crimes prosecutor Carla Del Ponte has often claimed that Mladic is hiding in Serbia, a claim repeatedly denied by officials in Belgrade.
