U.S. Admiral Gregory Johnson headed the delegation, which met with Iraqi Defense Minister Hazim Shalan al-Khuza'i.
"We need to build a strong relationship between the military and civil society so that the last remnants of the dictatorship, built over the previous years, will disappear," al-Khuza'i said. "The dictatorship was involved in worship and icons."
The delegation is tasked with advising NATO's political leaders on what needs to be done in Iraq, and how the alliance could help.
NATO diplomats are currently feuding over a possible alliance role in Iraq, mainly over whether Iraqi security forces should be trained inside Iraq under a collective NATO mission or outside the country by individual member states.
