Iraqi Prime Minister In Kuwait On 'Historic' Visit

Iraq's Allawi 31 July 2004 -- Iraqi interim Prime Minister Iyad Allawi arrived in Kuwait today for a three-day official visit.

Allawi's visit coincides with the 14th anniversary of the invasion of Kuwait by troops of the former Iraqi regime on 2 August 1990. Allawi did not make a statement on his arrival, but earlier said that the trip is "historic."

Allawi is on a tour of Mideast countries aimed at building cooperation in the region and raising support for Iraq's reconstruction efforts and the establishment of security. He has also visited Jordan and Syria.
