Officials from the interim Iraqi government of Prime Minister Iyad Allawi said today a delegation is continuing last-minute talks with Al-Fallujah authorities in hopes of finding a peaceful solution to the insurgency.
Allawi says the Al-Fallujah standoff must be resolved if Iraq is to hold nationwide elections in January.
A spokesman for Iraq's Electoral Commission said today the body's offices in Baghdad and Mosul this week received letters threatening commission members with death if they stayed at their posts.
The letters were signed by militants using the former name of the group led by Abu Musab al-Zarqawi, the Al-Qaeda-linked extremist believed to be operating out of Al-Fallujah.
