Russia Says It Thwarted Attack On Energy Plant

2 December 2004 -- Russia's Federal Security Service (FSB) said today that it prevented a major terrorist attack against a gas-distribution plant in southern Russia in November.

The FSB said its forces killed the alleged leader of the would-be attack in the Astrakhan region on 14 November, whom they identified as Adam Sultanovich Magomadov.

A second suspect was detained, the FSB added.

No further details were immediately available.
