Yanukovych Appeals Anew To High Court Over Vote

Yanukovych is still not conceding (file photo) 14 January 2005 -- Former Ukrainian Prime Minister Viktor Yanukovych today filed another appeal in the Supreme Court challenging the presidential election won by Viktor Yushchenko.

Yanukovych campaign manager Taras Chornovyl said the new appeal consists of more than 600 "volumes" of texts and photographs and more than 240 videotapes that the campaign contends suppport allegations of electoral violations.

Yushchenko on 10 January was officially declared the winner of the 26 December 2004 repeat vote, but he cannot be inaugurated until Yanukovych's appeals to the Supreme Court for the result to be thrown out have been exhausted.

The high court and the elections commission have already both rejected a number of appeals from Yanukovych, and international observers have said they found no evidence of massive fraud in the rerun election.
