Iraq Car Bomb Kills Over 17

12 February 2005 -- A suicide car bomb has killed at least 17 people today in the Iraqi town of Musayyib, south of Baghdad.

Police officials said an additional 20 people were wounded in the blast, which took place near a local government building.

The violence came as a senior judge in the southern Iraqi city of Al-Basrah was assassinated today by masked gunmen. Video footage showed the body of Taha al-Amiri lying in a hospital mortuary following the attack.

Iraqi police also reported finding today the bodies of six men dressed in Iraqi National Guard uniforms dumped on a highway near the northern city of Mosul. The men had been shot in the chest and head.

More than 20 people were killed in two separate attacks in Baghdad yesterday.
