EU, NATO Membership Said Vital For Bosnia, Macedonia

17 February 2005 -- Macedonian President Branko Crvenkovski said in Bosnia today that the European Union will not be complete without the former Yugoslav republics.

Crvenkovski said the "strategic aim" of Macedonia and Bosnia is to join the EU and NATO.

Macedonia is hoping to join the EU by the end of the decade. Bosnia is waiting to start talks on an association agreement as a preliminary step toward EU membership.

Crvenkovski met with Bosnia's tripartite presidency and was to meet with Bosnian Prime Minister Adnan Terzic later in the day.

He intends to be in Croatia on Friday for the inauguration of reelected President Stipe Mesic.
