EU Calls Upon U.S. To Support Ukraine's WTO Bid

21 February 2005 -- The European Union today called on the United States to back Ukraine's bid to be admitted into the World Trade Organization this year.

Claude Veron-Reville, spokeswoman for EU Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson, said the EU had reiterated its support for Ukraine's speedy admission to the WTO and had made its position clear to the U.S. government.

Mandelson is due to meet later today with Ukrainian Deputy Prime Minister for European integration, Oleh Rybachuk, ahead of talks Ukrainian President Viktor Yushchenko will have tomorrow and the next day with senior EU officials in Brussels.
