Russia Marks Defender Of The Fatherland Day


23 February 2005 -- Russia is today honoring soldiers and veterans on the occasion of Defender of the Fatherland Day.

The holiday is expected to be marked in Moscow with rallies and demonstrations organized by a variety of groups.

In comments regarding the holiday, President Vladimir Putin has praised the military traditions of Russia and noted that this year marks the 60th anniversary of the victory over Nazi Germany in World War II.
