Putin said he is glad that Russian-EU relations are developing steadily and that they are finding common ground in more and more areas.

Solana made similar remarks, adding that an upcoming EU-Russia summit will likely be positive:

"This (EU-Russia) relationship is growing better and better, and I am sure that this (EU-Russia) summit that we are going to have in a few weeks, on the 10th of May, will be a success," Solana said.

Solana later traveled to Moscow to have talks with Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov.

ITAR-TASS says discussions will focus on Russian-EU relations and their prospects in 2005.
