Moldovan President Nominates Vasile Tarlev To Form Government

8 April 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Moldova's President Vladimir Voronin today nominated outgoing prime minister Vasile Tarlev to again run the country's government and form a new cabinet.

Tarlev has been prime minister since 2001. His candidacy and the composition of his government must be approved by parliament, where Voronin's communists hold a majority of seats.

Moldova's lawmakers on Monday re-elected Voronin for a second four-year term.

Voronin, who openly supports Moldova's integration with the European Union, has criticized Moscow for refusing to pull troops out of Moldova's Russian-speaking separatist region of Transdniestr.
