Acting President Kurmanbek Bakiev (file photo) 22 April 2005 -- Kyrgyzstan's acting President Kurmanbek Bakiev held talks today with Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbaev in Almaty.

The talks focused on assessing the current state and further development of Kazakh-Kyrgyz relations.

Bakiev, on a one-day working visit, encouraged Kazakhstan to participate more in Kyrgyzstan's economy.

"We have agreed that Kazakhstan's business should play a most active role in Kyrgyzstan's economy," RFE/RL quoted Bakiev as saying. "We will try to create conditions for businessmen from Kazakhstan, Russia, and other countries to work successfully on our territory."

Nazarbaev said Kazakhstan is committed to the further development of bilateral ties, and pledged humanitarian aid to Kyrgyzstan.
