Leading Indian Politician Visits Russia


14 June 2005 -- Sonya Gandhi, head of India's ruling Congress party, today continues a visit to Russia when she travels to St. Petersburg.

Gandhi is due to meet with President Vladimir Putin in St. Petersburg on 16 June.

Gandhi started the four-day visit yesterday in Moscow. She is accompanied by Indian Foreign Minister Natwar Singh.

Gandhi's is the latest in a series of high-level visits by Indian officials to Russia in the past six months, most of which have focused on energy and defense cooperation.
