Explosion Hits Russian Oil Facility

15 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- RFE/RL's Russian Service and other news agencies are reporting that an explosion has occurred at an oil-storage facility near Moscow, causing a huge blaze and killing at least two people

Ekho Moskvy radio station, quoting Russian news agencies, said the blast occurred at the Noginsk oil storage depot near the Russian capital on 15 June.

Interfax is quoting Emergency Situations Ministry officials as saying some 200 people have been evacuated from a nearby maternity ward and an apartment block some 300 meters from the facility.

The radio station says some 20 fire engines are at the scene of the blaze.
