Three Die In Russian Steel-Plant Incident

24 June 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Russia's Emergency Situations Ministry says that a steel-plant building collapsed today in Magnitogorsk in the Ural mountain foothills, burying at least three workers under tons of debris.

The roof of a gas-purifying installation at the country's biggest stand-alone steel plant collapsed. A regional Emergency Situations Ministry spokeswoman said that one more worker might have been killed. She said the accident happened because of violations of safety rules.

The Magnitogorsk plant produced 11.3 million tons of steel in 2004.
