Tajikistan Marks National Reconciliation Day


Signing of peace agreement in Moscow in 1997 27 June 2005 -- Today is National Reconciliation Day in Tajikistan, marking the eighth anniversary of the end of the country's five-year civil war.

On 27 June 1997, President Imomali Rakhmonov and United Tajik Opposition leader Said Abdullo Nuri signed a peace agreement in Moscow to formally bring an end to hostilities that claimed the lives of tens of thousands of people and forced hundreds of thousands of others from their homes.
