EU To Improve Intelligence-Sharing Efforts

8 July 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The EU Commission says it will push for the creation of an EU-wide intelligence network after the 7 July series of bomb attacks in London.

EU Commissioner for Justice and Security Franco Frattini said today that the Commission will ask governments on 13 July to work "more quickly and all together" to create a computerized European intelligence network.

Frattini told the Italian "Repubblica" daily that progress on the issue had been slowed by the reluctance of national intelligence agencies to share their sources and methods.

Frattini's comments came one day after four explosions on London's public-transport system killed at least 37 people and wounded some 700 others.
