Putin: Next G-8 Summit To Focus On Energy Policy


(file photo) 8 July 2005 -- President Vladimir Putin says Russia will propose a world energy policy at next year's G-8 summit.

He said its aim will be to stabilize world energy supplies.

Russia takes over the G-8 presidency from Britain at the start of 2006. Putin said he will hold the meeting in St Petersburg.

The Russian leader said other topics in St. Petersburg will include terrorism, poverty, health, education, and problems facing countries of the former Soviet Union.
