18 July 2005 -- Afghan President Hamid Karzai arrived in Britain today for talks on assistance for his country and future business cooperation.
During his two-day visit, Karzai will meet with British Prime Minister Tony Blair, Defense Secretary John Reid, and International Development Secretary Hilary Benn.
AP news agency quotes an unnamed senior British official as saying Karzai and Blair will sign a statement expressing the "enduring relationship" between their two countries.
Talks will also touch on efforts to stem the flow of drugs from Afghanistan, which last year supplied more than 90 percent of the world's opium.
An Afghan government spokesman, Rafiullah Mujaddedi, said Karzai will also have an audience with Queen Elizabeth II.
