Iran's Rafsanjani Says Giving Up Nuke Technology 'Shameful'

Rafsanjani (file photo) 22 July 2005 -- Iran's former President Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani says it would be "shameful" for Tehran to give up its right to peaceful nuclear technology.

Rafsanjani made the comment today in a sermon broadcast on state radio.

France, Britain, and Germany have been leading the EU talks with Iran aimed at persuading Iran to permanently halt work that could be used toward nuclear weapons.

The U.S. suspects Iran of seeking to build a nuclear weapon -- something Tehran has denied.

Yesterday, Iran said talks with Europeans this week in London aimed at guaranteeing that Tehran does not produce nuclear weapons were "constructive."
