Four Reportedly Dead In Daghestan Explosion

2 September 2005 -- Russia's ITAR-TASS news agency is reporting four people were killed in an explosion in the Daghestani capital Makhachkala today.

Abdulmanap Musayev, spokesman for the Daghestani Interior Ministry, said two of those killed were soldiers and two civilians. Musayev said six people were wounded, five of them soldiers and one civilian.

Musayev said the explosion occurred when a military vehicle passed through the downtown area. An explosion device was hidden alongside the road and was detonated by remote control.

Musayev said police chased six suspects and after an exchange of gunfire all six were taken into custody.
