Nazarbaev: No Foreign Funding Of Candidates

President Nazarbaev (file photo) 14 September 2005 -- Kazakh President Nursulan Nazarbaev today said that foreigners will not be allowed to fund presidential campaigns ahead of Kazakhstan's 4 December presidential election.

Nazarbaev also said all potential candidates in the race will be allowed equal opportunities for holding election campaigns. Nazarbaev, who has ruled Kazakhstan since 1990, is running for another seven-year term.


RFE/RL has been declared an "undesirable organization" by the Russian government.
