22 September 2005 (RFE/RL) -- The Kyrgyz parliament is meeting to discuss last night's shooting death of lawmaker Bayaman Erkinbaev.

President Kurmanbek Bakiev and Prime Minister Feliks Kulov are attending the extraordinary session.

Interior Ministry spokesman Nurdin Jangaraev says Erkinbaev was shot in the head and chest after he arrived at his house in Bishkek.

The 38-year-old Erkinbaev had been a member of parliament since 1995. He had served as chairman of the country's National Olympic Committee since May.

Police have not commented on suspects in the shooting.
