Iran Hails Iraqi Referendum


17 October 2005 -- The Iranian Foreign Ministry today praised Iraq's 15 October constitutional referendum, saying it represents a display of national unity.

Iranian Foreign Minister Manuchehr Mottaki released a statement saying the referendum is an "important step that determines a bright future for Iraq."

In the statement, the Iranian foreign minister also expresses Tehran's full support for the Iraqi people and their elected government.
