Acting Kyrgyz Prosecutor-General Quits

Bishkek, 17 October 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyzstan's acting Prosecutor-General Busurmankul Tabaldiev resigned today.

Tabaldiev was appointed to the post last month. It wasn't immediately clear why he decided to hand in his resignation.

President Kurmanbek Bakiev appointed parliamentarian Kambaraly Kongantiev to fill the post.

Tabaldiev was appointed in September to take over as acting prosecutor-general after Azimbek Beknazarov was sacked.

Beknazarov claimed that his removal was linked to an anticorruption drive he launched following the ouster of President Askar Akaev.
