Rice during one of the stops on her recent tour, Afghanistan
18 October 2005 -- U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice met today with UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan in New York today to discuss situations in Syria, Iran, and Iraq.
A UN spokesman, Stephane Dujarric, said the meeting was meant to be a private meeting. The breakfast at Annan's residence in Manhattan was without the presence of aides from either side.
Dujarric said Rice and Annan briefed each other about their recent, separate visits to several European cities. The discussion included issues in Syria, the war in Iraq, Sudan, and the nuclear standoff in Iran.
