Russian Communist Leader To Run For President In 2008

Communist Party leader Gennadii Zyuganov (file photo) (CTK) 24 October 2005 -- Gennadii Zyuganov, the head of Russia's Communist Party, today entered the country's 2008 presidential race.

Zyuganov has twice been defeated in Russian presidential elections. He came in second to former President Boris Yeltsin in the 1996 vote.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has said repeatedly that he will not try to seek a third term in office, as he is barred by the Russian Constitution from doing so.
