North Ossetian Premier Hospitalized After Car Crash


(RFE/RL) 1 December 2005 -- The prime minister of Russia's southern republic of North Ossetia has been hospitalized following a car crash.


North Ossetian Health Minister Aleksandr Reutov said that republican Prime Minister Aleksandr Merkulov was in a serious condition, but that his life was not in danger.


Russian media reported that Merkulov was injured when his car crashed into a tree on a highway in neighboring Kabardino-Balkariya. At least one person -- according to the reports Merkulov's bodyguard -- died in the crash.
