Explosion Derails Daghestan Train

(RFE/RL) 8 December 2005 -- Security officials in Daghestan say an explosion today has caused a cargo train to derail.

Interfax says no one was hurt in the blast, which occurred at the Khasavyurt-Kizylyurt rail section in the southern Russian republic.

Law-enforcement authorities are investigating the incident.

Violence has increased in recent years in Daghestan, which shares a border with the republic of Chechnya, where separatist rebels have fought Russian rule for 11 years.
