Kyrgyz President Orders Privatization Of State Newspapers


Kyrgyz newspapers (file photo) (RFE/RL) 9 December 2005 (RFE/RL) -- Kyrgyz President Kurmanbek Bakiev today ordered the privatization of some state-run newspapers, RFE/RL's Kyrgyz Service reported.


Under the presidential decree, the "Kyrgyz Tuusu" and "Slovo Kyrgyzstana" newspapers, as well as government-funded regional newspapers, are to be privatized.


Kyrgyz Deputy Prime Minister Adakham Madumarov has been tasked with implementing the transformation.
