Five Feared Dead In Russian Helicopter Crash


(RFE/RL) March 27, 2006 -- As many as five people were killed when a helicopter carrying 11 or 12 people on board crashed in eastern Russia.

Russia's Transportation Ministry said in a statement the Mi-8 helicopter crashed as it was descending to land in the Yakutia region of East Siberia.


The cause of the crash was not immediately known.


Correspondents say accidents with Mi-8s, a frequently used helicopter, are common.
