Armenian Cargo Plane Crashes Near Tehran

(RFE/RL) March 28, 2006 -- Iranian state television is reporting that an Armenian cargo plane crashed-landed near the capital Tehran, injuring up to four of the crew.

The Antonov aircraft came down at a sports complex west of Tehran minutes after the pilot reported a technical problem. It remains unclear what caused the crash.

The plane was reportedly en route from Armenia to a city in the United Arab Emirates.

Earlier reports said the plane might have been of Russian or Bulgarian origin.
