Explosion Near Afghan Base Kills One, Wounds Two


(RFE/RL) April 6, 2006 -- Afghan authorities say a mortar exploded north of Kabul today, killing a civilian and wounding at least two others.

The blast occurred near the U.S. air base at Bagram.


In another incident, in southern Oruzgan province, the U.S. military says Afghan and coalition forces killed a suspected Taliban insurgent.


Meanwhile, the U.S. military says it is looking into an incident in southern Helmand Province, where Afghan police say eight police officers were wounded apparently in a brief clash with U.S.-led forces. It wasn't immediately clear what happened.
