Suicide Blast At Afghan Base Injures Six Soldiers

A Pakistani soldier at the border with Afghanistan (file photo) (epa) April 9, 2006 -- A suicide car bomber today wounded six soldiers in an attack on an Afghan army base near the Pakistani border.

An army commander said the bomber tried to force his way into a base in the eastern province of Paktika, about 10 kilometers from the Pakistani border. He said the bomber detonated his explosives when Afghan soldiers opened fire.

Four of the wounded soldiers are in serious condition.

Also on April 9, a remote-controlled bomb detonated near a convoy of Afghan troops in the southern province of Kandahar, injuring 11 people. Six of the injured are civilians.
